So yeah, recently my friend gave me his PS2 and Guitar Hero games. When Guitar Hero first came out, I thought I would hate it. My bf convinced me that I would love it, and that we should buy a PS2 JUST for the game...so I agreed and at first I really sucked at the game so I did hate it for awhile. When we first got it we'd play for hours every day so eventually I started to kick ass. We played the game non-stop until part 2 came out, and then played the shit out of that one too. Guitar Hero came out for the 360 by then so we sold all our GH shit for the PS2 and just rocked on the XBOX. Since I never tire of anything, I continued playing GH through all of it's incarnations while the bf swore off of it. Part 3, World Tour, Aerosmith, Metallica (my favorite one) and Part 5. With the exception of GH: Metallica, I think they hit the nail on the head with Part 1. I don't think anything will compare to first getting that game and mastering all the songs on it. Part 2 holds it's own...but then it was a steady decline from there. Part 3 was WAY too hard and full of long, boring songs that don't stand the test of time...Part 4 is when they introduced the full band mode, copying Rock Band (which I also play...but I don't like the way it's layed out, I don't like the square notes as opposed to the GH round ones, and I don't like how everyone in the 'band' always has a damn mohawk) and jumping the proverbial shark. Being a girl, people assume I'll suck at Guitar Hero. I love strapping on my 5-button and blowing their minds. (Ok...I'm not THAT good but I definitely don't suck so ...whatev). I over-use the whammy bar on every long note. I windmill. I have better stage presence playing Guitar Hero than I do rocking a stage in real life. Go figure!
Anyway....since my friend gave me his PS2 I've gotten right back into Guitar Hero, and I have him to thank. I had to buy a memory card and then play through every game again starting with Part 1 (and I finally got to play the PS2-exclusive 80's GH) and I rediscovered the magic. Heck, even the bf did for a short time. The real reason I'm playing through all these is for when my bff (extra f) sleeps over this weekend and we're going to play, so everything needs to be unlocked for true rocking times. I'm betting we'll play about 5 songs and then move on to something else, but I needed some sort of mental excuse for why I'm 30 and obsessed with video games while most of my friends are dealing with babies and stress. (um...haha).
