F.U.F. - Stores in the Greater Toronto Area and the 5c bag

The most beautiful thing I have ever seen.

About a year ago, they started charging people in the GTA $0.05c for plastic bags in grocery stores (and some retail stores, which is fucking BULLSHIT...but anyway). The point was to make it so that people didn't use as many plastic bags, save the environment, blah blah blah. I get it. I can't be arsed to carry around re-useable bags. I tried, and I always forgot them either at home or in the car, and wound up having to buy plastic bags anyway, so I just gave up on the whole re-useable bag crap...To add to the pain, the bag tax doesn't even go towards saving the environment. The stores that charge it can do whatever they want with the money, which is absolute SHITE but that's fodder for another blog.
While the bag tax has done the job, people ARE in fact using them less, it has created a whole new fucking annoyance.
STORES WON'T GIVE ME FUCKING BAGS ANYMORE. I'm not talking about grocery stores where you expect to buy bags, I'm talking about other stores, like convenience stores. If I'm buying a couple of chocolate bars, a bag of chips, some cans of pop...give me a fucking bag. Seriously. I take my stuff to the cash register, put it on the counter. They ring it in, and just leave it there..!!!  What the fuck do you expect me to do, carry all that stuff in my damn arms? I've had to do that a couple of times, and let me tell you how frustrating it is to drop shit all over the place trying to open doors and get into my car. GIVE ME A GODDAMN BAG.
Another thing that blows is that grocery store clerks don't bag your stuff anymore. So not only do you have to PAY for bags now, but you also have to bag your OWN STUFF. Fuck that shit. That's why I love going to the States so much. Free bags, people bag your stuff for you, it's living like a damn hell ass king.
I do re-use my plastic bags, for the record. I'm not THAT much of an asshole. Fuck you, bag tax and annoying retailers. I just want a fucking bag. IS THAT TOO MUCH TO ASK?

  1. Oddly enough in Montreal, a lot of grocery stores starting bagging for you around the same time they started charging for the plastic bags. Maybe to soften the blow? IT DID NOT WORK. I fucking hate that shit. You're not alone - NO ONE remembers to bring those damn bags! That you have to buy. That they have to produce, along with the plastic ones they are still producing. And they both include materials bad for the environment. What's the point? And they'll both still end up in a landfill. Cause, seriously, after awhile, re-using the same bag for your meat, your produce and your ice cream that leaked all over the place (because it melted while the bag boy was taking his sweetass time) gets kinda gross and they're only a dollar, so you don't wash it. You throw it away.
Meh, just use the plastic bags you can roll off by the produce section. You'll need a lot of them though, they don't hold much. ;)
